Age – when are you too old to live a productive life?

That is the question that is covered every day in the news. It is not stated in precisely those terms, but that is what I hear. As a person nearing 82, I live a productive life. I could have been more productive at 72, 62, 52, 42, or 32, but I can still contribute. I just completed dividing my basement into two areas. One I use for exercising and office space. The other is for storage. I will admit it took me longer than it would have 20 years ago, but I finished it. The exercise space has an elliptical, rowing machine, and stationary bike, which I use three to four times a week. The office space has two desktop computers, one I use daily and one a few times a week to explore WordPress, Web site design, web server design, and other interests.

The press acts like President Biden is too old to run for a second term. I look at what he has accomplished in the last three years, and the people support him and ask how you conclude that he is too old to run again.

I believe a person’s age has three factors – physical, mental, and emotional. Judging a person’s physical age by appearance seems relatively straightforward. A person’s mental age is not easy to determine. You would need a complete history of their cognitive ability. How did they retain and use the information at 20, 30, 40, 50, and so forth? A person’s emotional age is very subjective based on your past emotional history.

Based on what has been reported about President Biden’s cognitive ability. His mental age is not much different than it was when he was a Senator or Vice President. His physical age is that of an 81-year-old. He looks and moves like an 81-year-old. But looking and moving like an 81-year-old does not mean he should be put out to pasture. He is still capable of doing the job he was elected for.

I keep seeing in the press that President Biden should not run for reelection, not because of what he has accomplished but because of his age. No one has suggested who should run in his place. I say either put up or shut up.

The United States has the most robust economy in the world because of the leadership of President Biden. The young people in this country want President Biden to solve all of the world’s problems. Since he can’t, they think he shouldn’t be president.
